What are your summer plans?

Maybe you have a road trip coming up or a couple of day trips planned. Maybe your family likes to have backyard BBQs. Whatever you have planned, a little pre-planning can really help! Here are a few ideas to keep your travel plans swimming in the right direction! You can keep the 3R’s in mind to help everyone feel loved and appreciated even if temperatures rise internally as well as externally!

  • Checklists
Checklists help with packing, planning daily activities, and keeping you within your budget.
  • Research
Research is one of the most important things you can do to help make things go smoothly. For instance, if you travel to see something specific (art, building, etc.) and arrive after hours and cannot see it, everyone would be disappointed. Check fees, hours, and any other requirements of places you intend to visit.
  • Pre-book
Have tickets pre-purchased, hotel nights booked, etc. and you can save hours and money! No one wants to drive around an unfamiliar location searching for an available hotel room.
  • Airfare
If traveling by plane, your airfare should be arranged three to nine months in advance. You can research fares up to 11 months in advance, that way when a sale occurs, you will know it.
  • Driving
If you are road tripping, make sure you’re road-ready! Have maintenance done like an oil change, tire rotation, top off fluids, etc. Also, throw in some travel games, or make up your own as you toodle down the road. See if the kids can name the states and capitals of where you’re going!
  • Food
Food can be a very costly addition to your family vacation if you aren’t careful. Booking a hotel with a kitchenette can help if you take along some food or visit a local grocery. Some roadside picnic areas offer grills which can help cut down on food expenses. Be sure to pack snacks and beverages too!

Whatever your summer plans are, we hope you make wonderful memories! Remember, with the right attitude, the journey can be just as fun as the destination!
